How to Request an EV Charger

Follow these simple steps to get your EV charger installed hassle-free

  • Step 1 - Submit your request using the form on this page.
  • Step 2 - A vetted electrician will provide a quote and arrange a site visit if needed.
  • Step 3 - Seek approval from your Strata/OC Manager. Your Building Manager can help you with this.
  • Step 4 - Your charger is preconfigured by JET Charge for your building, and the electrician will arrange a suitable installation date.

Note: JET Charge provides the charger and coordinates the process to make it easy, we don't do the installation itself. While we recommend our vetted contractors, you're welcome to use your own electrician and we'll help guide them through the setup.

What Does It Cost?

  • Charger Cost

We recommend the Autel AC Single (7.4kW) because it’s reliable, tested for compatibility with our energy management system, and supports secure RFID access. It’s a future-proof choice for apartment setups.
Price: $1,293incl. GST (Optional 5m cable: $236 incl. GST)

Price: Varies by platform (check with your OC or building manager)

Why Energy Management Matters

JET Charge CORE helps your building support EV charging safely and efficiently.

Apartment buildings often have limited electrical capacity, and adding multiple EV chargers without controls can overload the system. JET Charge CORE is an energy management solution that ensures safe, balanced charging for everyone.

With CORE, your building can:

1. Prevent overloads and blackouts by intelligently managing energy use.

2. Support more EVs without costly upgrades, scaling as demand grows.

3. Optimize charging for off-peak rates, saving money and reducing strain.

4. Keep charging safe even if the internet goes down, thanks to offline protection.

Note: Some buildings may not have CORE installed because they have plenty of spare electrical capacity. Your Owners Corporation or building manager can confirm your building’s setup

Frequently Asked Questions

Costs & Billing

How much will I pay each month for billing?

Your ongoing subscription depends on your building’s setup:

1. JET Charge CORE + JET Charge Billing: $20/month.
2. CORE + Chargefox: $100/year plus Chargefox fees which currently adds up to around $24 a month.
3. Embedded Network: Fees vary; check with your OC or building manager.

And of course, you’ll also pay for the energy you use, billed at the tariff set by your Owners Corporation. This ensures you only pay for your own charging sessions, not anyone else’s.

Always confirm with your OC for the exact arrangement.

Why is there a subscription fee?

The fee covers billing software, support, and energy management tools that keep charging fair and safe for all residents.

Why does installation cost vary so much?

Installation complexity differs from one apartment to another. Factors like the distance from the building’s distribution board, cabling requirements, and any unique site conditions can significantly impact the final price. In some cases, costs may be slightly lower or higher than the typical range, which is why your electrician will provide a tailored quote after assessing your bay.

Why does the charger cost more than a standard home charger?

Apartment chargers are designed for shared building environments. They integrate with load management systems like CORE and support secure billing features to ensure fair usage and compatibility with your building’s energy setup — features that typical home chargers don’t provide.

Installation & Equipment

Can I use my own electrician?

Yes, you’re welcome to use your own electrician and we’re happy to work with them. Please make sure your electrician is experienced in connecting EV chargers to building load management systems like JET Charge CORE. If they’re not familiar with these systems, installation may take longer and could result in higher costs than initially quoted.

Can I choose a different charger?

JET Charge CORE is compatible with a range of charger brands, not just our recommended model. However, most chargers that are significantly cheaper than the recommended options are usually not compliant with apartment building requirements and are better suited for standalone homes. If you’re considering another charger, please check with the assigned electrician.

How long does installation take?

Typically a few hours, but scheduling depends on electrician availability and site complexity.

How do I start using my charger?

If your building is using JET Charge billing: Your charger will include two fobs for activation. You will receive all required instructions before the installation.

If your building uses Chargefox: Your charger will come with two RFID cards that can be used to start charging.

Please confirm with your Owners Corporation (OC) or building manager about which billing arrangement applies to your building.
